BETTER THAN ALL THE REST!
Let’s say you’re a talented, motivated, insightful competent go getter in Denver. Recently, you’ve concluded that you need help with a mental or emotional difficulty. Now you are wondering, who is the best therapist in Denver? (or psychologist, or counselor, or life coach).
You might even type in the search bar, “best therapist Denver” or “highest rated therapist Denver.” Or any number of other, similar searches, depending on whether you are looking for help with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, your kids, your anger problem, your secret lack of direction in life, or your overall dissatisfaction with life.
Clearly, you don’t want to waste your time with someone who can’t help you with your specific problem. And you want a solution as quickly as possible. A reasonable assumption is that “the best” person will be able to help you. Why wouldn’t you want the best therapist to help you?
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE, “THE BEST” – REALLY?
To answer that question, we’ll turn to Seth Godin, the business and marketing guru who wrote a bunch of famous books, including one called, The Dip.
In, The Dip, Seth defines, “the best in the world.” And it’s this: “The best,” as in, the best for you. Right now, based on what you believe, and what you know. And “in the world,” as in, your world, the world you have access to.
So, if you’re looking for a depression/anxiety therapist, you want the best depression/anxiety therapist, who’s available, with an opening in their schedule at a time that works for you, at a price you can afford. If you’re looking for a therapist to help you with trauma, you want the best trauma therapist who meets these requirements as well. Same with a relationship therapist.
You want a therapist who’s “the best” because she’s got years of experience. And because she fits your picture of what a great therapist is. And because she’s not too far away, and because she has a slot open.
That’s your “best in the world.” And as you can see, “the best in the world,” is a fairly flexible term.
“BEST” IS SUBJECTIVE. YOU GET TO DEFINE IT, BASED ON YOUR CONVENIENCE AND YOUR PREFERENCES.
So, what is your preference for a therapist? And what is convenient for you?
Do you want to see a woman or a man? Someone young or old? Do you want someone who “specializes” in your problem? Do you want to use your insurance? How far are you willing to drive? How willing are you to rearrange your schedule?
You can have whatever you want. The “best therapist in Denver,” is whoever you decide it will be.
