When Your Body Speaks Its Truth

Your Symptoms Are Telling You Important News

Have you ever gone to the doctor with some symptoms that were yelling something is wrong in your body? Did you have a bunch of tests only to have the doctor say to you, “Nothing is wrong. The tests are normal; everything is fine.”? So, you went home wondering why you didn’t feel relieved that nothing was wrong. Maybe you even felt a little guilty and bewildered. The doctor said nothing was wrong. But I still have ______; fill in the blank with headache, fast heartbeat, sweaty hands, stomachaches, etc. Perhaps the doctor implied that “it’s all in your head.” That made you feel worse.

There is something wrong. That something is the long-held belief that our mental state has nothing to do with our body’s condition. The truth of the matter is your body is very wise. And is always telling you something. In fact, it’s telling you lots of things. We just have to learn to listen.

That’s what we do in body psychotherapy. We listen to your body. If you are having stomach pains. There is a reason. The same is true with headaches, shaking hands, back pain, tense shoulders and a racing heart. (Assuming that there is no medical emergency or acute symptoms, when you do need a doctor.)

Take a look at this video and see what these clients of a body psychotherapist in Great Britain does. It is fascinating. These patients had plenty of symptoms that their doctors told them were “nothing”.

In my office, what your body says is just as important as the words you use. You are your body and your mind and your spirit. All of you is important. I look forward to talking with you about the wisdom of your body.
