What is Somatic Psychotherapy? And How It Can Help You.

Bioenergetic Analysis, or Bioenergetic Psychotherapy, is a form of Somatic Psychotherapy or Body Psychotherapy. It is a unique and well-established psychotherapy that helps to resolve emotional issues through work with the body and the mind within the context of a safe therapeutic relationship. As an evidenced based modality, it provides a powerful way for people to resolve their life limiting challenges and have a more vibrant, satisfying life.

Bioenergetic Therapy allows a person to get in touch with the self through his or her body. The goal of this therapy is a more alive body. The deeper one’s connection is to one’s body, the greater one’s capacity to breathe deeply, to accept and respect the self, and to love and accept others.

Within the context of a safe and attuned therapeutic relationship, the bioenergetic therapist helps a person resolve emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. As human beings, we all strive for more aliveness, pleasure, love, and joy.

Many life experiences which are highly individual and culturally-bound impinge on our longing and capacity to lead a more vibrant life. The process of Bioenergetic Therapy and the focus on the body endeavors to help an individual experience more pleasure, an increased feeling of energy, and more enjoyment in his or her life.

More about Body Centered Psychotherapists

“Bioenergetics is a form of psychotherapy based on hearing and understanding the patients’ story and their problems, then working to connect with the body and free the emotions. By helping patients find their ground, their body and their space, the therapy enables them to feel safe enough to begin to express feelings – sadness, anger and fear – which frees up held energy. Breathing deeper and allowing the body to vibrate helps them to begin to feel aliveness and pleasure. The goal is feeling the excitement and pleasure of living in the here and now.

Because I have found Bioenergetics to be the most fundamental and integrated approach, it has been the basis of my work for over 40 years.”
